WATCH: Frightening Rolex 24 crash hospitalizes drivers

Memo Gidley had surgery on his left arm and leg after a terrifying accident in the early stages of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, his team said early Sunday.
Gidley and fellow driver Matteo Malucelli remained at a nearby hospital for further evaluation and testing following their two-car crash Saturday near the three-hour mark of the prestigious endurance race.

Gidley, according to race officials, also has an unstable fracture in his back that will require additional surgery before he can be released from the hospital. He continues to be evaluated.

Malucell remained at Halifax Health overnight for further evaluation and is resting comfortably, according to race officials.
Gidley was driving for the pole-winning team. He had to be cut out of the No. 99 Corvette, which crumpled like an accordion when he plowed into the back of Malucelli's Ferrari.
